Harberton is a school which has children’s rights at the heart of its ethos. We are a school which creates safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive.
In order to gain recognition for this, our school is on a rights respecting journey in partnership with UNICEF. Our aim is to achieve the full ‘Rights Respecting Schools Award’ which will be presented by UNICEF. We achieved ROC status (Recognition of Commitment) in November 2018 and then achieved Silver status in June 2019. We are now working to achieve Gold Status next!
Please see the photos below for images of UNICEF assessor Niki McQuillan’s visit to Harberton to award our school the Silver Status.
The Rights Respecting Schools Award recognises that our school, through the teaching of the UNCRC (UN Convention on the Rights of the Child), gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.
More information about our journey and the award itself can be found on the menu subheadings on the left.
