Harberton Reading

Programme

The Harberton Reading Programme consists of 34 reading books, workbooks and homework books.  It is an alternative approach to teaching reading designed to help children who are unable to learn to read through whole language or synthetic phonic teaching approaches.

The reading books are a celebration of success and not the teaching tool. Children are taught the target reading vocabulary through workbook activities.  These workbook activities are designed to develop certain thinking skills or processes that will eventually lead to the independent application of reading strategies.
